I was thinking about this a little more...
I think it comes down to being perceptive to as many sensations as possible, rather than over-focussing on one or few, so as to get an idea of how things relate to a whole...
By this, you could see part of it through an example...
You might ask someone something. They then give you a verbal response (point A), accompanied by body language that may suggest they are not telling the whole truth (point B). If you looked deeper, you may understand why they might be lying (point C).
By being as perceptive as possible you may be able to get to, and understand more fully to point C as quickly as possible. A greater level of perception (or avoiding 'staring at one message given'
may allow for further assessment, and processing to take place to best deal with the situation. Like finding the best way to guide the conversation onwards from point C.
I believe those who try to read more deeply into that which does not appear on the surface of perception (perhaps fortune-tellers or mind-readers), would attempt to not stare at the obvious, and for fuller reading, not stare at all (if possible)...
