Starting slowly, quietly...
Creeping up on you like a stalker...
No one can tell, no one sees
At first, anyway...

Beginning like a regular member,
Appearing as a small egg in a stream,
Nothing stands out about it.
It still gurgles with its siblings,
Like bubbles in a stream,
Billowing up from a warm, pleasant center.
It will still appear red,
As the sun during dusk;
Or, on paper, white,
Deceptively clean as snow.
It is not until later that it shows its ugly head,
Sprouting the tentacles of a giant squid.
Multiplying like rodents throughout the body...
Watch it run rampant as a fiend on drugs
Listen to it cry from deep within,
Resounding through the cavity
As though proclaiming the victory
Of an athlete over an infant.

The eyes can do nothing
But savor the salty liquid they bleed.
Everything around the eyes becomes as bland
As the saltines they consume as sustenance.
Too weak...

To walk to worry to writhe to wonder to wander


To wait


The prisoner is now in captivity.
The capture celebrates as it dances on a page,
Dancing higher and higher on a chart
As Satan in the fires of Hell...
