Media's representation of African Americans |
Have you ever noticed how African Americans are portrayed in the media? African Americans portrayals in the media are often times based on negative stereotypes they do not accurately portray reality. This dates back to slavery they would have such not only justified the system of oppression, but these images where negative and untrue. In today's media these images are not as blatantly oblivious and apparent as they where in that era, but now there are subtler representations of African American stereotypes. For example, in regards to the news media, a number of studies have shown that news television programs often misrepresent African Americans as perpetrator of the crime while whites are treated as innocent
