Six Thoughts on Ethics

1 Where there is no gravity, only those in chains are free.

2 We are all, we moderns, pebbles on the bottom of a stream: shaped, but unmoved by, the flow of events.

3 Ethics is on everybody's lips but nobody's mind.

4 Ethics is like the horse we ride – it does not decide where we go, but we must cooperate with it if we want to keep in the saddle.

5 The virtue of a society is the amount of tears cried divided by the amount of blood spilt.

6 Virtue in an individual is measured, in the last analysis, by the honesty of the lies we tell.

Interesting words, I thought of princess Diana when reading number 5.

I like number 1.

Number 2 makes sense.

7 Reason is the source of most of man's misery

8 No matter how many planets it takes under its orbit, a star will always be a lonely thing

9 The worst kind of prison is one that it is not worth escaping from
