Moving to new planets
Surely we are very far from moving to a new habitable planet, but the thought crossed my mind. Would we have to change our government or how we run our new society? I mean we will probably have to form a new council to represent our new planet as a whole rather than just divided nations.

I see it like a telescopic point of view. Right now we have representatives of our countries and soon we'll have to see the bigger picture of having representatives of our planet and the surrounding inhabited planets, and even further possibly having representatives for entire galaxies for distant travelers.

It really amazes me how things are going to be changing if/when we establish intergalactic trading systems and what not. It almost seems like it would come right out from a movie.

What do you think would happen or what would you like to see our people do when this time comes?

Watch some Star Trek dude

I think control over the masses throughout space will be largely dependent upon our ability to transfer information. Right now there are lots of hurdles to get over... communicating to the other side of the world creates a time delay and speaking with astronauts is a tedious task.

If information is not readily shared and transferred across space, societies will be more reliant on managing and ruling over whatever area they are capable of reaching immediately.

There is no use for a ruler over a quadrant or sector of space if that ruler cannot influence the people which inhabit that area.

Assuming we survive long enough to span the universe, it may be more common to see small settlements with independent governing systems as opposed to an emperor of some sort. But who knows, with technology we may find ourselves quite easily enslaved by a singular government. Only time will tell.
