Mirroring… and taking it away…
That method used in communication to put yourself in someone else's shoes and also to show that you understand the other person, by using the same signals...
Basically, mirroring is used to assist the main thrust of a communication, where the thrust is often very broad and far reaching...
The mirroring is a sign that you understand, by repeating what someone else has communicated...

You don't only mirror others, you also mirror yourself by repeating something you have said, in order to understand yourself, and to put yourself in shoes you have 'worn' before...

Now something very interesting happens when you take the mirroring away, you no longer repeat the signals (for example, words) and you do not make yourself available to understand... This can be useful for getting rid of that annoying song in your head, as well as helping you avoid saying something you'd rather not say...

How to mirror and when not to mirror, you may ask...
Basically, you can mirror just by repeating what someone has said and you may like to add to it, to progress the conversation...
You may want to avoid mirroring when something terrible is said, and you do not feel comfortable progressing that conversation...
What you may want to instead of mirroring at this terrible moment is to take another angle to the possible ways of communicating and acting...
