Is the Rap Culture Destroying the Generation? |
Is rap, the obvious origin of all the new trends amongst most teens, also the origin for their new-found love of violence? Their newly acquired thought process that says anything and everything has to be solved with a fight? That you shouild fight someone for looking at you the wrong way or doing something that's of even the slightest disrespect? Is the clear illiteracy of the rapper that comes across in his music what's influencing teens to not want to read and talk like they're fucking retarded?

It is not a new trend. It has been around since the 80s. It reflects the social, political, but more importantly, the economic conditions of African Americans in general. The language in rap music is not degenerate music, but another branch off the standard. If African-Americans were the majority and you spoke standard English, your language would be called retarded. You sound like someone who has not studied the history of rap and African American history. Studying it will help you understand that rap is not just trash music. Granted, some popular rap artists don't have anything meaningful to say, but neither do a bunch of other non-black singers. I know there was a thread on rap music, but I can't find it through the search engine.
