taking positions
i recently wrote a positional paper denouncing positions, my general claims being that positions cause closed minds by causing a person to first of all take a position(removing any objectivity they had), and also forcing them to create an argument favoring a position(caused emotional attachment to their argument throught expended labor that they dont want to see wasted and that they also dont want to recieve the insult of being wrong).

i originally chose this topic because i couldnt think of nething better, but now i am genuinely interested in it...thoughts?cons?pros? all welccome

I do believe that taking positions in a discussion is important when trying to attach meaning and significance to an individual's core beliefs and understandings. However there is a limit. Being an absolute reductionist is an extreme, and often it is a risky position to take when in discussion. This will ultimately lead to close-mindedness, which I see as feebleminded. And therefore, (i believe) too much emotional attachment to a rather inconsiderate close minded approach leads to no stimulating nor interesting discussion. Some individuals, should put in more thought and patience when attempting to articulate their opinion.

It is simply said by saying that close-minded people are prone to make mistakes. Because the underlying root of this thread is not being openminded but of fear of chooseing wrong. These things make us want to "take a position" when we fear what the consquences might be, assuming you are talking of "postions in discussion" related to relegion and philosospy. But it is absoultley neccesarry that we chose a position because if we don't, we can't be wrong, and if were not wrong then we learn nothing, And if we learn nothing about God or Philosophy then we have lost all.
