They do not really help your gums but they also don't make anything worse.
But you can decide what kind of electrical toothrbush you use. I believe a few years ago there was a UK study that showed that rotation-oscillation brushes outperform manual brushing by a bit. Other electrical toothbrushed had no advantage over manual brushing.
