Milky Way Will Eventually Collide With Andromeda |
Astronomers and astrophysicists predict that in approximately 4 billion years time, the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide into each other. It is predicted that despite this galactic collision, stars within galaxies are so far apart that it is predicted that Earth and our Solar System will not be annihilated. However, we will be flung further away from the galactic core of our galaxy. Collisions between galaxies are common, and scientists have been tracking the movement of Andromeda since 2002 using the Hubble Space Telescope. The certainty of a 'definite hit' was only made in 2012 after ten years of research. Interestingly, much before this collision occurs all life on Earth will have already been destroyed. It is estimated that life on Earth will end in about 1.4 billion years time when the increasing luminosity of the Sun will have increased the temperature on Earth so much so that no it will be too hot for water to exist on Earth.
