Baking Soda Uses

Baking soda, aka sodium bicarbonate, is a pretty flexible ingredient - use it to make cakes or use it to clean your toilet. Yeah, that's a terrible way to highlight the variation in baking soda's uses but it's true.

If you know any unique/weird/resourceful uses for baking soda, then add it to this list. (But don't put up your cake baking recipes - unless it's really uncommon.)

Easy-to-peel hard-boiled eggs:
Add a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the water when you boil eggs. The mixture seeps through the eggshell and prevents the egg white from sticking to the inside of the shell, so when you peel the it it should come off much easier.

Baking soda + water = toothpaste

Baking soda + half-dead campfire = no fire

Baking soda + water + bee sting = bee sting is neutralized

Baking soda + water + food coloring stains on your hands = clean hands

Baking soda + skunk-spray + hydrogen peroxide + liquid dish soap = skunk smell is gone from clothes (if your pets have been sprayed, brush baking soda through their fur)

I use it to get rid of smells and stains, like if you spill something on a carpet.

Baking powder is not always pure sodium bicarbonate.
So check the ingredients.
Add some to citric acid power, stir, and then add a large tablespoonful to a glass of water, stir quickly..
Drink immediately for that wake you up feeling on a morning after hangover.
