Admitting my ignorance....

Heh, I needed an attention-grabbing title because I am very curious about something. Let me explain. I've lived my life thus far not really caring about who ran things and how they ran them. Heck, up until a few years ago, I didn't even know the hierarchical structure of our governing body. Well, I'd like to know more now. I just recently gave myself a "refresher course" on the hierarchy. What going on with our government? I know, it's a VERY broad question, but I have too much to learn and don't know where/how to start. If anyone can guide me toward some kind of an objective and complete view of what's what I'd be very appreciative. I don't know exactly what the deal is with Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party-ans, etc. Where to start? (I feel I have to point out that I'm not overly-dumb, just have been interested in concepts/ideas in life moreso than what's going on around me if that makes sense haha).

Thanks much, Decius. I'll look into the fundamentals of just what these groups are all about. And I'll get to know the candidates who are in the running for next election. I decided it's time to.....get involved....with life and not just sit around analyzing and philosophizing dust haha. I'll report my findings and tell ya what I think/where I stand
