A Song of Ice and Fire Series By George R. R. Martin
For anyone who loves fantasy and hasn't read this series yet, you should definitley go and pick up the first book in the series "A song of Ice and fire: Game of Thrones"

This series stands out to me so far, as the best that I've ever read in the genre. It's so human and gritty, and totally compelling. Amazing characters.

A brief description from Amazon.com:

"Martin's Seven Kingdoms resemble England during the Wars of the Roses, with the Stark and Lannister families standing in for the Yorks and Lancasters. The story of these two families and their struggle to control the Iron Throne dominates the foreground; in the background is a huge, ancient wall marking the northern border, beyond which barbarians, ice vampires, and direwolves menace the south as years-long winter advances. Abroad, a dragon princess lives among horse nomads and dreams of fiery reconquest."

HBO's Game of Thrones is based on these books.

I'll have to check it out.

The Gap series by Stephen R. Donaldson was the last fantasy novels I read.
