Dear Bantam.. i wrote that post at a very sensitive moment of my life... ive given it much thought and im not feeling as hopeless anymore. what my new goal in life is.. is still a mystery to me... im just trying to survive through my education and fight abuse that is hurled at me.. and trying to make sure i dont destroy myself. mentally.. physiaclly.. thats not my job. you may be young but that doesnt bother me.. i will take wise words from anybody, whatever their age... im only eigteen.... who cares if this reason is pointless to everyone as long as i cherish it. What about people who just live.. they dont live for a reason.... well... they just try to survive... enjoy themselves... fulfill pleasures and desires.... not trying to write books, find cures for humanity... not wanting to give their years to charity... what of such an existance? Are they living purposeful lives? sometimes i want to live because i love the feeling of water on my hands... i love the taste of cold juice... i love the feel of my mother's hand when i lie next to her.. i enjoy reading... sometimes its because i love just being alive.. being able to feel... even when im in an ugly room.. with horrible people.. who are doing nothing but telling me all the negative aspects of my personality... i do remember putting my hand in the bath tub and thinking, if i wasnt alive how could i ever feel such beauty? you may be thinking.. water? yes warm water.... what is a purposeful life?

Geez! Why NOT continue? Nonexistence could be alot worse than living. Everything is perception, how you interpret your perceptions. Things aren't as bad as we make them.

To my mind, the very fact we even need to ask the question; why continue, in the first place, is reason enough why we exist and go on about our mundane little lives. Essentially, ignorance is bliss and when you look out upon the vast gulfs that comprise this diverse, dynamic, social collective of ours, it really becomes evident. Most, and i use the term loosely, don't give a crap about the point of it all. Sure, they might spare it a thought once or twice, but beyond that, nothing more. Those that live, simply do so, to live and those that take a step back, live to question the point of living. Perhaps, for those that seek knowledge, just before demise, enlightenment is obtained. However, that then becomes a paradox, because who is to say exactly what enlightenment holds . Live to question why you live and just be glad you even give a shit.

Geez, her. Truth is, all we are is consciousness. Everything else is like a "personal dream"--nothing matters except our own interpretation of what we imagine we percieve. We are the designers of our experience. Atleast, that's what I think at this point.

Sensory experience is not much more than psychological interpretation...like the "Matrix" in a way. Atleast that's what I think at this point...lol.

Yes...The dreams of a child are the closest manifestations of Truth...Children are born out of wonder and mystery and still experience it until they are smothered by worldly preoccupations, which are the true delusions of human existence...be a child again and actually experience...there is no other.

To those who ask themselves why continue, (and i have asked myself that many times also) you must try and reverse the question. Ask yourself why not? Think of all you have and not all you dont have. Because if you end your life now you have NONE of the above. Dont look at the things that you dont like, look at the things you do like. Then see if you would like to lose them forever.

Her, you asked what a purposeful life is. There are many answers I could give you. I think the vast majority of people born waste their time given to them. And I disdain them for that. But who is to say what is and isn't a purposeful life? Since we dont know for sure, I would say on its most basic level a purposeful life is one that was lived to its fullest. I really love what you have written here her. To me THAT is what life is at its grandest. And THAT is why we should continue. quote: sometimes i want to live because i love the feeling of water on my hands... i love the taste of cold juice... i love the feel of my mother's hand when i lie next to her.. i enjoy reading... sometimes its because i love just being alive.. being able to feel... even when im in an ugly room.. with horrible people.. who are doing nothing but telling me all the negative aspects of my personality... i do remember putting my hand in the bath tub and thinking, if i wasnt alive how could i ever feel such beauty? you may be thinking.. water? yes warm water....

To put this thread in another way, "a reason for living is also an excellent reason for dying". In either case, a sacrifice might be at stake. The question is - must life have a meaning to be lived? The answer is No. It will be lived all the better if it has no meaning.

We live simply because we choose to keep living, we all hold the power of life in our own hands, whether we keep living is our choice, whether we keep fighting to live is our choice. People take there own lives by choice, just as people choose to keep living.

I've pondered on this topic for quite a while now, considering how young I am. Like mentioned before by the others, you just have to accept what this life is and what it has to offer. Because in reality we will never understand life no matter how hard we try to. We will never discover the true meaning of everything. So, why bother to worry about it? The only outcome is a mind-splitting headache. I know sometimes it's difficult to avoid, but there is nothing you can really do about the situation. Some advice: don't take anything for granted, appreciate what you have, focus on everything you love, and enjoy every aspect of your life. The only thing that matters is each individuals well-being. As long as you're happy, things will be okay. :]
