the meaning of life is what your inner soul feeds it to be or what your soul precieves it to be, as like material man preceive what god to be

Is it OK just to be alive? is that enough, or should our lives serve some purpose?

Of course it is in the nature of all living things to want to serve some useful purpose...
even a dung-beetle does so!

What ultimate purpose would give you enough meaning in life?

whether you have meaning in your life is up to you as an individual, and to me is irrelivant in so much as the meaning of life in general as in all life I think is just to live and carry on life, our individual life meaning or life's journey is a by-product of the whole as it were.

I think that before you can Understand the meaning of life.

The answer will be staring you in the face.

quote:
I think any life is the same person. Every insect, animal, human etc. We are all the same soul just trying to fulfill our needs/wants. Only through harmony will we achieve an everlasting peace.

This is an interesting idea, and I like it. The rub being that it seems very likely humanity is actually addicted to disharmony and strife. Just think of how much we love stories filled with difficulty and struggle. Even fairy tales do this. Who wants a story which reads ' They lived happily. And then after that they lived happily ever after.'???
Oh no, we love struggle and strife!

But more in line with this thread, I think we all do have a purpose in this life which is what gives it its meaning.
And that purpose is to learn how to love ourselves and therefore heal the dis-ease which comes from self-loathing.

Some philosophers have suggested that all that which we can perceive that we love, is in fact no more than those parts we have learned to love about ourselves. And all that which we perceive in this world which we hate or fear, is no more than that which we loath and fear in ourselves.
Which brings me back to your point about all of life being essentailly about the same 'person'...

In which case I am no more than a voice within yourself which you choose to reject or accept and vice versa. Conversations with our-selfves, lol!

Although I still believe what I said before, that we're all the same essence just molded by our own unique circumstance, this still does not properly answer "The Meaning of Life." Simply, shouldn't the meaning of a human's life be to become an excellent human? Is not the blacksmith's purpose and meaning only to make the best possible works of metal? The meaning of an ant to serve the queen, the purpose of the queen to continue the race.

But what does it mean to be an excellent human? Is it to be a happy human? Is it to be a powerful human?

These structures of government that man has so cleverly devised say a lot about man's nature and his view of his nature. The american government was based on the idea that man is a selfish creature who strives only to accumulate and would be happiest in doing so. Socialists (although only a theoretical concept of government as no true socialist society has ever existed) belileve that humans are inherently social and would be happier in a society that made everybody equal.

What makes an ant an excellet ant? One that gathers most for the queen. What makes a human an excellent human? That depends on what you think humans inherently strive to be.
