If you were truly looking for God then the most logical thing to do is to find religious or scientific writings and study them until you find your answer. You seem more interested in find a god that you can control.

lol yup that's exactly what I'm doing - still haven't found an answer though - not a God I can control, just one that exists

Well I'll tell you this much if you actually search logically you will find, as many people including the former atheist C.S. Lewis that the Christian God is the only living God.

*sigh* okay but that's why i'm debating with you and yet I still am not convinced - i don't think i'll be able to convince you either. What made C.S. Lewis convert? I know he was a friend of Tolkien, who was a Christian. Maybe it was influence. I'll take this up with you later I guess because I am going kayaking now.

You cannot persuade me because I know what I believe.
Lewis converted when he failed to find answers in any of his other pursuits, and Tolkien probably had something to do with it although it is said that Lewis converted in the side car of his rother's motorcycle.

no preaching for any religion please....

the question was "what is the innate nature of man?"

as an avid reader of history, i can only show the trend .
it is surely desire, as sum1 said, but i think we should put a much better term...it is the nature of man "to seek "

Man has always thought there rs signboards everywhere sayin "happiness", "peak of happiness" ,"Career peak", etc etc... and goes on taking for granted that he wil reach that stage somehow, even without effort.
thats why there is pain and disappointment

the innate nature of 'man' is nothingness because the conception of man, or anything else for that matter, as being seperate, different, or somehow apart from the whole is illusion. and the nature of illusion is nothing, fabrication.man is not a seperate entity interacting with other seperate entities formally composing existance. all are the same, unified, one. and the nature of one is somethingness.

im sorry but the last place i would go to find god (as a name referred to the bascis how we feel of him/it) would be the bible or any other written literature.. i love it itslef as fun intresting eploration of human experience but i dont take it to lead me to 'god'... give me a break (and ea always a possiblilty of being wrong)
