in my english class we read The Odessy. We recently had a class debate as to whether or not Odyssues was a hero. the debate was called "Hero or Zero?" both sides of the debate ended up tying. we couldn't come up with either answer. in my opinion that is because the characteristics of a hero change in every person's opinion. to one person a hero could be a parent. to another a hero could be a drug dealer. what do you think? what is a hero to you? do you think Odysseus was a hero?

Hey, he spends two years with Circe, who apparently is pretty hot, so yeah- HERO! But then he ditches his wife Penelope for two years...Sounds like a ZERO to me! But he got himself home and kicked the suitor's royal asses! HERO! But lost all of his men on the way to kick them- ZERO!

Does this sound like your class discussion at all?

anyone who experienced life as much as Odysseus did is a hero in my eyes. everyone makes mistakes, he was no different. i am not particularly fond of Odysseus, actually he was a bit of an asshole, but he had bravery to an extent which i will most likely never know.

awakening- awe c'mon, you didnt see the humor in the fight with Polyphemus? it was a funny mistake.
