And here we go again... I will start with one of your sentences "can survive the current inividualistic and embrase the collective ?" I have a better question : can you name a country which has survived the collective and is likely to continue? "will Marx's dream of a classless society ever exist.? " No those who have tried have failed. Marx focused too much on the distribution of wealth. He failed to see (and to foresee, although he couldn't have known) that capitalist societies produce far more then socialist ones. There are various reasons for this, but most important is that capitalism is blind : bad companies die, bad government agencies are propped up with more money. Marx also put too much faith in human beings. He thought we were fundamentally moral. This is epitomized in this description of communist society : 'From each according to his ability, from each according to his need'. Needless to say, this form of society is impossible, and attempts have failed. The Soviets realised this, people don't work for the sake of doing so. Lenin's answer was simple 'Shoot 1 out of every ten idlers.' A classless society as Marx protrayed them is impossible on a practical level. Communist societies are inefficient due to a lack of competition and due to a lack of incentive to work.

While i hate to admit it your right the government as a central controller of the economy can not work But what do you think about having comunty level controll I read something that says that socialism(marxism) in a communty is sort of like the tribes of old that have a chief so what do think lets get past richer country poorer country argument and lets say that their are some people who would rather live in a marxist society dispite the overwhelming history (even if it means not having all the nice stuff in capitalism) you know just for the comradeship comunty focused whats wrong with that .

If you want to live in a commie village you are free to build one with your capitalism-earned money. You'll still have to pay taxes, but oh well.

Not really. You would probably not be self sufficient. There would always need to be someone who works outside the village that makes money for food etc.. Which would be missing the whole point eh? But then, it also depends on your interpretation of communism.

Forgive teens atitude, he seems to feel that capitalism is the answer. He is well noted for attributing caapitalism with things which are probaly more related to other factors which he doesn't address. Will a true classless society exist? Will mankind ever stop percieving themselves as being better than others? Yes it could happen but not to probable. As I stated inn the capitalist thread, I don't have 16 car garage (nor 16 cars) nor do I have a swimming pool & tennis courts. But the project (home owner assoiciations) does have tennis courts & swimming pool so I do have access to these common areeas & their use. Look at the when the price of gas went up, people started sharing rides, etc (for a while), The need of the many will outwiegh those of the few as resources dwindle, so we learn to share or to do without or we will kill each other for those things. Can be inconvienent sharing but it isn't such a bad thing.
