I suppose I find this a really hard question, just like anyone. It's supposed to be a hard question, 'is God real?' It can't be proven I suppose until after we die. Asking someone to give a definition of God is like saying travel back in time for me and tell me exactly how the universe actually started. Since I can't travel back in time and I can't give you actual physical evidence that God exists, I can only say I believe in God, because I have faith. I'm not sure what else I can say!

Of course even everybody who believes in God if asked to define God is going to have a completely different answer, as God is a personal and very subjective relationship to individuals.

I don't see God as a wise old man sitting on a cloud deciding whether to intervene or not in humans' affairs. I'm not even sure entirely how I do see God myself. For a long time I didn't believe in God. Iwas not brought up with any religion in the house, we didn't go to church or anything. My mum was raised in a Jewish orphanage in Norwood, London and she didn't preach any religious views to us at all, but she has encouraged my sisters and I to question life and our place in the universe and I thank her for that.

I used to be completely against the idea of a creation type scenario, always adamant that a scientific, logical start to the universe had to be the answer. However as the years have gone on and I look at the beauty and perfection of life and the cosmos I have decided that it can't have all just come from nothing. There seems to me purpose and intention and design, by some greater force than can be imagined (I conclude this is God) an energy or force of greater intelligence than can ever be explained in human terms.

As for hating people because he doesn't intervene, well that's looking at God and humanising whatever God is.
To me God has set the cosmos and all its wonder on its course, perhaps with intentional design (ie. DNA) and then it is left to complete its course. Maybe God has influence over individual souls through pre-programming at certain points in evolution and then individuals feel (inspired by God to do certain things) who knows. Whatever the true nature of the universe and its origins, believing in God strengthens my resolve that there is a purpose to mine and every living things existence and why we should take hold of life, embrace every moment as precious and use our God-given gifts as best we can to help humanity be the best it can, in however small way that may be.
I know this is going to cause some people to fall off their computer stalls laughing but that is sort of how I see God.
