to be honest i'd define a cult film as a film with a dedicated following. e.g sound of music a lot of people do the dressing up in costumes and watching it. - cult dont get confused with independent films e.g quintin tarantino

Yes, I agree with you melon, but Quentin Tarantino movies still have a dedicated following.

I always thought cult movies were indeed outside of mainstream culture and to some degree popularity- some of my favorites:
Army of Darkness, Groundhog day, Rushmore, nightmare before x-mass, the big lowbowski, the Shadow and all the old GODZILLA films!

Let me state just how much I hate the regular Hollywood crap!

and what supper iritated me at my last visit to the movies was an anti-piracy ad before the trailers- this stunt man was saying that it was just plain wrong- I think what was just plain wrong was the ticket prices and overpriced snacks not to mention the stinking ads before the film! anyway my 2cents worth.....

Oh yeah The Big Lebowski reminds me I'm a fan of all Coen brothers movies, although I didn't see Intolerable Cruelty so I guess I can't say I'm a fan of all of them.
