Haha, thanks for that enlightening post, if its just a stupid movie why are you so upset, hehe.
I enjoyed it, but agree that it is fairly overrated as a meaningful film, however artistically and mood wise I can see where it developed such a following.
I would describe it as fairly profound, as it holds much depth, but feel it was hindered by ambiguity.
But I specifically recommend for fans or general likings of Donnie Darko, well for everyone, to watch "Frailty", if you haven't seen it, its dark, messed up, and a little more clear in its profoundness.
I guess I could compare on an important point by saying that Donnie leaves you thinking, but more thinking what just happened and does it mean anything. Whereas with Frailty you are left thinking, but are specifically questioning issues that affect your everday life and the world around you in a light you may or may not have shown on the topics.
